Change Involves Action

Change involves being able to slow down, pause, see our behavior and then make a conscious decision about how to proceed in a different way. This is absolutely the most difficult when we are activated but also what is most precisely needed in those moments as well. Breaking habits and patterns, particularly those that at one time served us as part of our survival mechanism is not for wimps. This is worthy work. It requires making actual attempts, often involves false starts and failures and asks us to get up one more time and try again. It's no wonder people just choose to stay stuck.

But what of the freedom that lives on the other side of not giving up? Things worth having generally involve some level of sacrifice. It involves letting go of the comfort of what we know (even if it's not pleasant) and walking toward the scary unknown. It takes action.  The most important personal work doesn’t come on your yoga mat while meditating. The centering and insight that comes from there is extremely valuable, but it is preparatory. The hard work comes during conflict or misunderstanding, when you are anxious, or worried, frustrated or hurt and you realize you have a choice to do it differently…and you choose it.

My mentor always says, "walk and cry". It's okay to cry. It's okay to acknowledge how hard this work is but keep walking…keep going… keep trying…keep growing. Bit by bit the wind will shift, the sun will come out earlier in the day and you will begin to feel the transformation you seek. Life shrinks and expands according to one’s courage and dedication. It takes practice. I know you can do it. You've got this. XO Paula
